DALE Winters has seen 90 drones fly out of the shop doors over the last six months with farmers buying out the majority.

The owner of Camera House in Stocklands Rockhampton has been supplying farmers with drones so they can check on cattle, fences and licks.

With cattle prices at all time highs it is a good opportunity for cashed up graziers to put their money back into their property.

"Basically farmers, in particularly cattle farmers want to go and check their fences or their licks or their pumps," Dale said of the drones.

"We're getting up to ranges of 5km out of some drones so it does save them a fair bit of time, especially if it's wooded areas or it has been flooding or raining and they cant get out there to check those things, even just basic things like making sure cattle or calves haven't fallen in licks.

"We actually have some graziers, funnily enough herding their cattle with them."

Dale said he had received customers from all over Queensland wanting to buy drones off of him to use on their properties.

"They all know each other all over the state so I've actually being supplying quite a lot not just in our area but other areas of the state because they just want people with the experience to set up the solution in its entirety with the tablets and everything ready to go straight out of the box and if they do have problems, they've got someone to come back to."

"There are lots of toy drones out there but these DJI units will go quite a good range and quite good flight times of 20 plus minutes so you can cover a lot of area with that.

Dale's prediction was the drones would be the future of farming.

"I think it's the future of farming really, being able to asses your property and also for weed management and what not."

"Drones start at under $1000 but this particular DJI phantom range are just over $2000 which is very cheap compared to having to own helicopters and be hiring to run operations."
