A DISCOUNT airline starting a service to the Gold Coast mid-year has taken off with seats selling out.

Scoot will start to fly to the Gold Coast in mid-2012 and has already sold out of an introductory fare of $88 from the Gold Coast to Singapore.

The fare was so popular the company has offered travellers reduced business class fares.

People can fly from the Gold Coast to Singapore in business class for $321.

Scoot will use a fleet of Boeing 777 to service the Gold Coast to Singapore route in a partnership with Tourism Queensland and the Gold Coast tourism industry.

At the launch of the direct flights to the Gold Coast, the airline's CEO Campbell Wilson said the airline was all about offering great value.

"[We offer] direct access to one of the world's premier air hubs for Queensland and north NSW, and to one of the world's best holiday destinations for Singapore," Mr Wilson said.

"This should be as exciting for the two locations as it is for us."
