Put on your kilt and pipe up if you want to join the band

YOU don't have to be Scottish, but a sense of rhythm would be handy.

Having served the community proudly for 55 years, the Coffs Coast Pipes and Drums is seeking new members with a desire and enthusiasm to give local events a sense of occasion and celebration.

Formed in the April 1957, the band has bestowed life membership on 11 members, four of them - Gaille Sheehan, Ray Ellington, Bob Walsh and Denis Heap - are still active.

"This is an achievement that many bands wouldn't be able to match", Pipe Major and President Geoff Rogers said

"These four combine with the 30 other members of the Coffs Coast Pipes and Drums to provide entertainment for many community events along the Coffs Coast."

Most recently the band participated in the Jacaranda Festival in Grafton with a full band turnout, not only playing traditional tunes but incorporating an entertainment element including Highland Dancing.

Anyone interested learning or playing in the band can phone Geoff on 6653 3882 or
