AN accident outside Northside Shopping Centre on Wednesday evening may strain a friendship.

At about 5pm a young woman was walking across the pedestrian crossing outside the shopping centre when she was struck by a car travelling east along Park Beach Rd.

It is believed that the woman was thrown over the bonnet of the car when she was struck before falling heavily onto the road.

The young male driver of a Daihatsu was shocked to find that the victim was actually a friend of his.

The lady is believed to have suffered serious injuries including a suspected broken left leg.

Working in steady rain, paramedics and police stabilised the young lady while bracing the leg before loading her into an ambulance.

Police are yet to release the details of any charges the driver may face.
