NiE Term 4 Topics
Throughout this term, each week in your local daily newspaper, you will find the NiE Topic Page. This educational page targets years 5 to 10, providing a resource to be used in classrooms where students are encouraged to investigate and analyse information. It initiates classroom discussion on important current affairs and curriculum linked topics.The page delivers informative, relevant and up-to-date information,introduces and defines new vocabulary, investigates issues that affect Australians,examines language issues that students can comprehend, fosters an interest in current affairs, explores different values and points of view, provides strategies that help develop critical reading and thinking skills, asks questions that challenge students to respond to the news and delivers facts that build general knowledge of the region, country and world.
The page is linked with extra material in the form of task cards. These activities can be used to extend the skills of all students and can be modified to suit students at all levels of learning.
