‘I DO’ – AGAIN, couple marry again after divorce

MARRIED, AGAIN: Lois and Steve at their home in Sawtell where they were married on the weekend.

STEVE and Lois Arthur said their wedding vows during an intimate ceremony, marking more than four decades since their love story first began.

Family and friends gathered at the couple's Sawtell home on Saturday to celebrate the pair marrying each other, again.

The couple met in Sydney, where they first wed in 1973, when Steve was 21 and Lois was 18.

Not long after, they parted ways, going on to have separate lives, marriages and families.

Years later, firefighter Steve featured in The Daily Mirror after responding to six fires in a single night; Lois saw the paper, tracked down Steve and set up a meeting, where they also met

each other's new spouses, Lois cradling her baby daughter.

Fate, or Facebook, would not bring them back together for another 30 years.

When Lois got Steve's friend request, she thought, "Whoa, Steve Arthur."

Feelings blossomed, like frangipani flowers, and eventually, using the original engagement ring, Steve proposed.

"We love each other dearly but when we were kids, we did not have the tools to keep it going. Now that we are older and more mature we know how to work things out," Steve, a retired firefighter and ferry boat engineer, said.

Lois, who works in homecare, said they enjoyed living in Sawtell and waking to the sound of black cockatoos.

"We love going for motorbike rides and joined the local motorcycle restorers club," Lois said.

Symbolic of this shared passion, a tiny couple on a motorbike was perched atop the newlyweds' white wedding cake.
