IT'S about to heat up in the capital with a veritable bonanza of events featuring tennis superstars, cricketing champs, a magnificent musical and festive favourites.

Cirque du Soleil KOOZA
Kicking off the party is the heart-stopping antics of Cirque du Soleil. KOOZA is the latest production from the internationally-renowned company combining gravity-defying acrobatic performances with the hilarious art of clowning (24 November - 18 December).

Minchin's Matilda
Audiences are sure to have a toe-tapping good time at the award-winning Matilda the Musical taking to the stage at Brisbane's Lyric Theatre. Featuring original songs by Tim Minchin and based on the much-loved Roald Dahl story, Matilda the Musical is the tale of an extraordinary little girl with a vivid imagination and razor-sharp mind (2 - 29 December, 2 - 17 January).

I don't like cricket; I love it!
The Gabba is where fans of the game can get their hit this summer. The Aussies will take on Pakistan over the Commonwealth Bank Day-Night Test match from December 15. For cricket in a smaller dose, the Victoria Bitter One Day International between these teams is on January 13.

For hard hitters The Big Bash is where it's at. The Brisbane Heat starts its season, taking on the Hobart Hurricanes on December 30 while in the Women's League, the Heat and Adelaide Strikers battle it out on January 21.

'Tis the season
A little sprinkling of Christmas fairy dust settles on Brisbane from November 25, starting with the Lighting of the Christmas Tree. Festivities continue until Christmas Eve with the perennial favourite, the Christmas Parade and pantomime, projections at City Hall, fireworks and Christmas markets. An enchanted garden will open for the first time at Roma Street Parkland for magical explorations.

Anyone for tennis?
It's set to be an ace New Year at the Brisbane International. Tennis fans are pumped for the return of World number one Angelique Kerber. Her appearance at the 2016 event kicked off one of her best seasons yet. Spanish powerhouse Rafael Nadal is also set to draw the crowds, making his first appearance at the Queensland Tennis Centre (1 - 8 January).

More ideas for a sizzling summer here.
