A STRESSED out bride-to-be who became abusive and violent on a flight to Bali had to be restrained and the plane diverted.

Hervey Bay woman Jodie Farren was flying from Brisbane to Denpasar for her wedding on June 8 last year, but had to be removed from the aircraft after she yelled and swore at cabin crew, slapped her fiance's face and frightened other passengers.

The Strategic Airlines flight was forced to touch down at Darwin Airport, where Farren was detained by the Australian Federal Police.

The 25 year old yesterday faced Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on charges of disorderly conduct and violence against a passenger.

It was her second time before the courts for disorderly behaviour on an aeroplane.

Commonwealth prosecutor Anita Sharma said Farren had been drinking the night before she boarded her flight and continued to do so on the plane.

But when staff suggested she have a meal before they would serve her any more drinks, Farren became abusive.

She called one crew member a "wrinkly old c-t" and ordered her to "take this dog food away".

She continued to yell and swear, punching the seat in front of her and slapping her fiance's face twice as she accused him of not standing up for her.

The behaviour caused passengers to move away from Farren and soon the crew had to restrain her.

"My view is the conduct is so serious that we can't allow this to happen on a plane or else something disastrous is going to happen," Magistrate Graeme Tatnell said.

"I'm surprised you can even get on an aircraft at all, let alone be flying around the place."

Solicitor Justin Geldard said Farren suffered from anxiety and depression, but was not taking any medication at the time.

After being arrested at the airport, she voluntarily attended a Darwin hospital where she was prescribed medication for her issues.

Mr Geldard said she'd also been under a lot of stress about her pending nuptials.

After the incident Farren was able to board a flight to Bali where the wedding went ahead as planned.

Farren pleaded guilty to the two offences and was fined $2500, plus $78 court costs.
