Fair Trade chief happy at decision
CONSUMER protection authorities have welcomed the successful prosecution of a Coffs Harbour businessman who sold unsafe solar hot water services.
Fair Trading Commissioner Rod Stowe has welcomed the results of prosecution action against Jan Pieter McHeyzer, the sole director and general manager of Solar & Bamboo Direct Coffs Harbour Pty Ltd, Solar & Bamboo Direct Tamworth Pty Ltd and Solar Installations (NSW) Pty Ltd, before the companies were placed into liquidation on December 23.
He was also the sole director and company secretary of Bamboo Direct Pty Ltd, which was placed into external administration on December 23.
On April 3, Fair Trading prosecuted McHeyzer in Coffs Harbour Local Court for Australian Consumer Law (NSW) and Electricity (Consumer Safety) Act offences.
He pleaded guilty and was ordered to pay $15,081 in fines and costs.
