AFTER spending several days on high alert in sweltering daytime temperatures throughout the Clarence Valley, local RFS volunteers have joined more than 200 firefighters from across NSW in Coonabarabran to help local crews contain a bushfire burning in the Warrumbungle National Park.

Brian Williams, RFS Clarence Valley operations officer said the firefighters who are assisting communities are demonstrating great camaraderie.

"Many crews have been busy containing and controlling fires in the Clarence Valley," he said.

"To volunteer on their time off to assist other communities in need shows how dedicated these people are and the level they will go to to help."

Scott Campbell, senior deputy captain of the Lawrence fire brigade arrived in Coonabarabran yesterday.

He said he was glad to offer assistance.

"In the RFS we all pitch in and help one another. Most of us will be strengthening containment lines to protect properties from the bushfire," he said.

A spokesman for RFS Media said the local crews are praising the efforts of assisting crews.
