COFFS Harbour police have recaptured a Queensland jail escapee.

While patrolling Bucca Road at Moonee Beach, officers spotted what was believed to be a stolen car with stolen number plates and decided to question a 36-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman.

Inquiries revealed the woman was wanted for absconding from a Brisbane prison and she was charged with escaping lawful custody.

Both were also charged with allegedly having stolen goods in their possession.
