Coffs to hold NDIS rally

THIS Monday, April 30, Brelsford Park will see some unusual activity.

Every Australian Counts is a national campaign demanding the introduction of a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) - and advocates will be holding a local rally to generate community support for the scheme.

"When I heard that the NDIS Rally will be held in 6 major cities across Australia I thought that is great," local organiser Cath McGrath said.

"There were no rallies for regional areas. I think regional areas should have their say too and so I'm organising the Coffs Harbour meet and sign-up in support of the NDIS."

According to the Make Every Australian Count website, the NDIS will revolutionise the way people with a disability, their families and carers are supported in Australia, and replace all the current state and territory disability systems.

The campaign is concerned that although the Federal Government has begun the first stages of implementing the NDIS, the scheme is not guaranteed by any political party.

"The NDIS will ensure people with disabilities get the essential care, support, therapy, equipment and early intervention they need," Cath said.

The rally is happening from noon to 1pm at the Brelsford Park car park, opposite Coles.
